Intensified cooperation with Israel




Head of the International Military Cooperation Department Battleship Captain Milan Konjikovac met today with the envoy of defence of Israel, on non-residential basis based in Rome, Colonel Kobi Regev.

During the meeting, they analysed previous cooperation between the two ministries, defined the priority areas of cooperation for the next period, for which there is an interest of both parties, and confirmed a mutual interest for its improvement and intensification.

During the conversation, Colonel Kobi Regev was informed about the foreign policy priorities of our country, activities of the Ministry of Defence in the EU accession process, as well as the measures taken with the goal of improving the capacities and capabilities for Serbia's OSCE chairmanship and participation in multinational operations. Gratitude was expressed for the principled support of Israel in defending the principles of the international law and the preservation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia.

Both sides agreed that the upcoming visit of the Minister of Defence of Serbia to the State of Israel and the conclusion of the new Memorandum of Understanding related to the military, defence and industrial cooperation had given an additional impulse to the development of defence cooperation in the fields of common interest.

The readiness of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia to, in addition to military economic cooperation, develop cooperation with Israel in the fields of military education, military medicine and other fields, including the military-military cooperation, was also conveyed.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between the Memorial Centre for keeping the memory of the martyrs and heroes of the Holocaust - "Yad Vashem" and the Military Archive of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia.

Both sides stated that there is room for improvement and intensification of cooperation in the field of defence. They exchanged concrete proposals for its continuation, and discussed the draft of the Plan of bilateral defence cooperation between the defence ministries of Serbia and Israel for 2016.
