Plateaus in front of the Old General Staff buildings arranged

The Ministry of Defence has spent this nice summer time arranging the area in front of the "A" and "B" buildings of the Old General Staff compound in Kneza Milosa Street. Plateaus that once resembled the lawn, now got completely new, refined appearance of a city park. The new look, apart from greening the area, was completed by setting up of a large 76x29 meter banner.

The banner is a photograph of military ranks with the well-known saying of Field-Marshal Zivojin Misic "He who dares can, he who knows no fear, goes forward!" This is a new banner, set instead of the previous one that was damaged by gusts during storms, which overtook our country last year. The Ministry of Defence has accepted a new banner donated by 11 factories of the Serbian defence industries and it features logos of these companies. Setting the new banner was preceded by preparation and approval of the project documentation and obtaining the consent of the Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Belgrade. The total weight of the construction with the banner is nearly five tons.

During the works, the area was covered with about 800 cubic meters of earth where park grass, flowers and evergreen trees were planted. In order to maintain the park, watering system has been installed. Those who walk down the Kneza Milosa Street can now take a break and rest on six new park benches.

Let us recall that in 2014, a part of the Old General Staff compound was cleared when three storey levels were removed from the "B" building, and when almost 3500 cubic meters of crushed concrete and fittings and more than 57,000 kilograms of metal debris and 7500 kilograms of steel were taken by vehicles. This was the beginning of clearing the area in front of the Old General Staff building, for the first time after the 1999 bombing.
