Exhibition "War painters in the Great War" marked the Day of the Military Museum
On the occasion of the Day of the Military Museum – 22nd August, and the centenary of the First World War, exhibition "War painters in the Great War – sketches and drawings" has been opened today at that institution of culture.
Opening of the exhibition by the senior curator Ljubica Dabic was attended by the State Secretaries of the Ministry of Defence Nenad Neric and Zoran Djordjevic, Assistant Minister for Human Resources Milos Jankovic, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, as well as numerous guests.
Opening the exhibition, the State Secretary Neric said that in the half of the second decade of the 20th century, we remember one of the most impressive events of the human history – the Great War, during which the war painters of the Serbian Armed Forces and the people in their own artistic way painted great victories, pain, sorrow, recovery and return to their homeland after the Salonika front.
- The fine artists have always been chroniclers of their time recording events and personalities by painting techniques. In this exhibition we have opportunity to see a unique example in the history of art that a fine art reached its full artistic maturity in the wartime turmoil. It happened to Serbian fine art, Neric said adding that their thoughts, transformed into images in the most difficult moments of survival in the war, are still living among us even today.
According to him, today's exhibition should be devoted with respect to all the heroes who contributed to the glorious victories of the Serbian Armed Forces, because the exposed works were created on the battlefields in the Great War.
Head of the Military Museum Colonel Dragan Radenkovic reminded the audience of the most of the successfully implemented tasks in the Military Museum in the previous year, on the occasion of 137 years of existence of that cultural institution.
By the exhibition "War painters in the Great War – sketches and drawings", or works of war painters in the period from 1912 to 1918, the Military Museum offered a selection from the valuable treasury of cultural and artistic values of the Serbian people. A valuable collection of about 500 pieces by almost 20 of our war painters has been collected to exhibit sketches and drawings by Vasa Pomorisac, Miodrag Petrovic, Radomir Stevanovic, Vladimir Becic, then Dragomir Glisic, Nadezda Petrovic, Bosiljka Bosa Valic and others.
The exhibition will be open during the next one month run.
