Reception by President of the Republic of Serbia on the occasion of the Day of the Serbian Armed Forces

On the occasion of the Day of the Serbian Armed Forces, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic held an official reception today at the Building of the General Secretariat of the President of the Republic which was attended by Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic, Chief of the General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic, Secretary of State Zoran Djordjevic, Acting Assistant Minister of Defence Milos Jankovic, members of the collegium, and chief staff of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.

Congratulating the holiday to members of the defence system, President Nikolic looked back on the glorious history of the Serbian military and its people, expressing his belief that the Armed Forces will also conduct the upcoming task, the celebration of the Day of the Serbian Armed Forces, honourably and with he most professional approach.

- Once again, in the year behind us, the Serbian armed Forces has once again proved to be the foundation, the pillar and the roof of this society. The Serbian army originates from the people, it has never had any disagreement with the people it serves, and they expect it to bring rescue when no one else can do it - Nikolic said.

- Being the President, I am proud to be the supreme commander of such an army, and I will be even more proud if the army faces no challenges that would force it to defend the country not only with its heart and wisdom, but also with courage and weapons – President Nikolic said, stating that the task of members of the defence system to be well-prepared and trained for all situations.

He expressed his hope that there would be even more such holidays celebrated in peace.

On the occasion of today’s holiday, Minister of Defence presented President Nikolic with a military memorial for the March of the Victorious parade, while General Dikovic presented him with emblems of all SAF units and brigades.
