Exhibition Early Christian art Mosaic, icons and frescos opened
At the Atrium of the Central Military Club, episcope of Toplica Arsenije opened the exhibition “Early Christian art – Mosaic, icons and frescos”, which was made in cooperation of the Academy of the Serbian Orthodox Church for Art and Conservation and Odbrana Media Center.
Vicarial episcope of Serbian patriarch Irinej stressed that icons are deeply rooted in the tradition of the Serbian Orthodox Church that developed over centuries, in monasteries and by the people who had worked on that.
- Today, each Orthodox church has its academy that fosters Orthodox iconography in a technical way, and with a good measure. Frescos and icons are the living evangel that testifies of God and His Church that is primarily reflected in the Holy Liturgy and the Eucharist – the higher cleric said.
Episcope added that Serbian medieval cultural heritage is primarily reflected in clerical art from Serbian monasteries and that, after the exhibition that he opened today, organized by the Academy professors, he hoped we would soon have the opportunity to see the works of their students.
Director of Odbrana Media Center Colonel Stevica S. Karapandzin stressed that the Central Military Club fosters and values the liberation tradition, and that their associates on the project foster the tradition of academic education of artists, whose main intention is to create for life of liturgy and Eucharistic community.
The works that will be displayed at the Central Military Club of Serbia until April 24 and their authors gathered on this occasion around a specific idea of renewal of one forgotten identity at the horizon of academic artistic education – the profile of a clerical artist, whether his scope of action is aimed at creation of new or preservation and restoration of “old” artistic pieces under the auspices of orthodox spirituality – Dr. Aleksandra Kucekovic stated in the catalogue of the exhibition.
