Joint Statement by the Ministry of Defence and the trade union representatives

On the invitation of the Ministry of Defence, representatives of the representative trade union and trustees of registered trade unions in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces met with the Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic, Chief of Serbian Armed Forces General Staff General Dikovic and their associates.

The main message of the meeting is that there will be no reduction in the salaries of the employees in the defence system, by which they denied all the misinformation about it that could have been heard recently in the media. On the contrary, the Ministry of Defence will continue to work on improving and enhancing the material situation of all the employees.

What they all agree is that the stepping up of the trade unions in recent days is a consequence of incorrect information and interpretations about the level of salaries in the defence system and the alleged new wage cuts. This has led to a completely erroneous interpretation of the statement by the Prime Minister on the earnings of pilots, and apology of the unions for the erroneous denial.

The meeting resolved all the dilemmas starting from the income of Majors pilots of fighting airplanes through the way for future discussions and meetings between representatives of MoD and union leaders, as well as their future contribution to solving important status issues.

After extensive discussion on a range of issues related to the status and material situation of the members of the Serbian Armed Forces, it was jointly concluded that the interest and hard-earned reputation of the Serbian Armed Forces in the society are above everything else.

The representatives of the state union supported all efforts of the Minister of Defence and the Chief of General Staff towards improvement of the material situation and the status of the member of the defence system.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Military Trade Union of Serbia, Serbian Armed Forces Trade Union, Branch Trade Union of Administration, Justice, Defence and Police – Nezavisnost (Independence) and Associated Trade Unions of Serbia – Sloga.
