Minister Gasic in Zrenjanin



Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic and Deputy Head of the general Staff of Serbia Lieutenant General Jovica Draganic visited today with associates and representatives of the local self-government the barracks “Svetozar Toza Markovic” in Zrenjanin, which was returned from the Master Plan to the Development Command of Banatska Brigade of the Armed Forces of Serbia.

During the tour of the barracks in Zrenjanin, Deputy Commander of Training Command Major General Maldjen Nisevic informed Minister Gasic about present results and about further steps regarding the said barracks.

At the City House of Zrenjanin, Minister Gasic met with Mayor of Zrenjanin Cedomir Janjic and representatives of the local self-government, when he stressed that this city got another factory today.

- With opening of the barracks and return of the Armed Forces of Serbia, Zrenjanin has got another 250 work places. In the future period, we will complete the formation with professional soldiers and civilian employees – Minister Gasic said, adding that, in the next month and a half, with the help of the local self-government, the paving of roads and some other infrastructural works will be completed.

According to Minister Gasic, the Armed Forces made sure its members would be situated in adequate conditions, and he also conveyed his regret that the decision had been made for the barracks to be left, even though it was renovated in 2006.

- Now, we have to allocate funds again, and since crude oil was left at the power plant, it cannot start working, which is very unfortunate – Minister of Defence stated, expressing his belief that these issues will be dealt with in good cooperation with the local self-government.

As Minister Gasic stressed, they also discussed the Military House which will soon be given to the city for using, about the future of Ecka Airport, and equipping the medical center in order for the military insured to have adequate healthcare in this city. He also mentioned Zrenjanin’s request to be the host of this year’s ceremony on the occasion of the Day of the Military, which will be considered by the General Staff.

Mayor Janjic expressed his content that the military has returned to that city. He added that efforts will be made to resolve the issues mentioned during the meeting.

Answering press inquiries about the situation in Majdanpek, Minister Gasic said that it is very difficult, because two large power lines fell which urgently need to be repaired.

- We have three large aggregates of the Armed Forces of Serbia on the way, one of which is sent to the hospital, the second one to the water supply company, and the third will be used where the local self-government sees fit – Minister Gasic stressed, adding that the Armed Forces of Serbia will also send its members to help in order to overcome the difficult situation the citizens are currently facing.
