Visit from the Head of the General Staff of Hungary
Head of the General Staff of Serbia General Ljubisa Dikovic spoke today in Belgrade with Head of the General Staff of Hungary General Tibor Benke.
General Dikovic stressed that regional cooperation within the international military cooperation is very important. He also stressed that the Armed Forces of Serbia have great bilateral cooperation with the Armed Forces of Hungary, friendly state.
General Dikovic reminded that members of our military, during their preparations for deployment in multinational operations, particularly in Cyprus, have conducted their training together with members of the Hungarian Armed Forces for several years. As the pinnacle, General Dikovic pointed out the joint exercises of the two militaries that are alternately conducted in Serbia and Hungary, with lethal arms, and the joint practicing of shooting from ships. General Dikovic stressed that this represents the greatest form of trust between two militaries and that he will discuss many important issues with General Benke, including the security situation in the region, capacities that the Armed Forces of Serbia possess and can offer foreign militaries it cooperates with, possibilities of data exchange about the situation in airspace and further development of bilateral military cooperation.
Moreover, General Dikovic thanked General Benke and the Armed Forces of Hungary for their help to our country during this year’s disastrous floods.
General Benke confirmed the good cooperation between the two militaries and two countries.
- In four years that I have been on this duty, I can only express all the best about our bilateral relations. We will discuss further development of our relations. We must build strong cooperation in the region, which would be in the interest of both countries. We have made the decision to reduce the number of Hungarian members in Afghanistan, and to reinforce the forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo and Metohija. Our good cooperation in missions is just the foundation for us to cooperate the same way in other fields as well - General Benke said.
According to him, the delegations of the two countries will also discuss cooperation in the field of military medicine, joint participation in the European security structure and the experience Hungary can offer Serbia on its path to the European Union.
