Gasic at the Xiangshan Forum
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic stated at the Xiangshan Forum – prestigious scientific conference held in Beijing, that the foundations of Serbian national security are the European foreign policy orientation and improvement of cooperation with most influential subjects of the international community and states in the region.
Minister Gasic stressed that Serbia, as a militarily neutral country, develops partnerships both in the East and the West, based on mutual respect and interest, and that it does not consider becoming a member of any military alliance at this moment.
During his speech at the meeting which was opened by Minister of National Defence of China Colonel General Chang Wanquan, Bratislav Gasic reminded that the Southeast Europe also has a great geostrategic significance and potential. As he pointed out, this is why the states of this part of Europe have direct responsibility to make this territory safe.
- Achieving the necessary level of security is the key condition for integration of the region into the global security network. Serbia’s opinion is that main threats to regional and international security are terrorism, cross-border crime, proliferation of mass destruction weapons, corruption and drug trafficking – Gasic said.Gasic thanked for the hospitality and stressed that he was pleased with the talks he had had during his visit to China.
- Remarkable results of the process of modernization of this beautiful country prove what China represents today in international relations. At the same time, they confirm that the decision of the Serbian Government to build the strategic partnership and to make China one of the four pillars of its foreign policy was the right choice – Serbian Minister of Defence concluded.
