Military cooperation of Serbia and US
State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Zoran Djordjevic spoke today with the US Deputy Ambassador in Belgrade Gordon Duguid about the bilateral military cooperation between Serbia and US. During the meeting, particular attention was given to mutual contribution to further development of regional cooperation in the field of defence.
The interlocutors agreed that joint exercises organized by the US Armed Forces, and especially those conducted in Serbia are some of the ley points of the bilateral military cooperation that permanently affect the development of operative and functional capabilities of the Armed Forces of Serbia, and that this direction should be followed further.
State Secretary Djordjevic stressed the importance of numerous security support programs of the US Government, particularly the Education and Staff Advancement Program, Program for Modernization and Equipment Procurement for the Armed Forces of Serbia, Capacity Development Program for multinational operations, and others.
Deputy Ambassador pointed out his content with the fact that the number of members of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia in multinational operations under the auspices of the UN and EU is constantly growing. In this sense, both sides agreed on the significance of further joint work on the development of the Center for training units for multinational operations at “South” base which should in its future stage of development become a regional and international center for training units for multinational operations.
In the context of joint efforts to maintain permanent peace and stability for all citizens in Kosovo and Metohija, State Secretary and Deputy Ambassador particularly emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Armed Forces of Serbia and KFOR. They agreed that this field also has potential for further improvement, mutual support, help and cooperation.
During the meeting, they also discussed topics related to political-security situation in the region and worldwide.
