Attempt at a skydiving record breaking

Покушај обарања националног рекорда у падобранствуOver 35 registered parachutists gathered yesterday at the military airport Batajnica with the goal of setting the new national skydiving record in formation figures category.

The record breaking was initiated by the Association of Women Parachutists of Serbia in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia, and the jumps are performed from transport helicopter of the 890th mixed helicopter escadrille of the 204th Air Brigade. Aside from sports parachutists, members of aero clubs, active members of the Special Brigade of the Armed Forces of Serbia are also taking part in the attempt to break the record.

Покушај обарања националног рекорда у падобранствуThe goal of this aeronautical-sports undertaking is to create a group formation of at least 25 parachutists during a 3,500m free fall, and thus set the new record. The formation must be of the same shape and individual positions that has been previously submitted, which is checked by “flying cameramen” that jump together with the parachutists and two judges of the Aeronautical Union of Serbia on the ground.

The preparation jumps and the selection of candidates began on October 18, and the first attempt to break the record was yesterday. Jumping of the parachutists was interrupted by bad weather conditions, and it is planned to continue after they improve.

The current record is held by a group formation of 24 parachutists (24-way) in free fall, which was set in 1992 in Subotica.
