Military provides assistance also today

Members of the Serbian Armed Forces are still actively involved in the campaign to assist citizens in the municipalities of Majdanpek, Kladovo and Negotin affected by the recent floods and torrents.

An engineering task group has been formed with 300 soldiers and a dozen machines and vehicles to take part in clearing roads, removing sludge and debris, said the MoD spokesman Major Jovan Krivokapic.

The troops, which are stationed at Camp Karatas, are clearing ground in Tekija expecting that the key works are to be completed within ten days. Lieutenant Colonel Zivko Jovanovic points out that the troops have enough technique to eliminate the consequences of the flood – cleaning streets and some yards.

In Karatas, among the soldiers there are those who have been evacuated and who had previously been housed in the hotel. At first, 70 people arrived, but some of them returned home or went to relatives. Now there are forty two of them in the camp. In addition to 150 soldiers, there are some thirty workers of RTB Bor, also helping in Tekija.

The largest engagement of the Serbian Armed Forces is in the village of Boljetin where assistance has so far been received by dozens of families, and today it has been planned to send 150 soldiers to the municipality of Kladovo to clear the households and road communications with the engineering machinery. It has been planned to continue the reconstruction of the road in Kazanski potok, which was destroyed in the May floods.

The assistance action to help the people involved members of the Army, Training Command and the Air Force of the Serbian Armed Forces, who, besides clearing the ground, supply the affected with drinking water.

The Serbian Armed Forces, as always, will provide the necessary assistance to their population, and at this point we consider hiring of additional men and machinery depending on the situation on the ground.

During the recent visit to the affected areas Minister Gasic said that the Serbian Armed Forces sent 500 soldiers and available machinery to the municipalities of Kladovo, Majdanpek and Negotin, and that the two bridges in the affected areas are to be repaired.
