Promotion of reserve officers of the Armed Forces of Serbia
On the occasion of the graduation of “March 2014" class of reserve officers of Military Academy and the Military Medical Academy, a ceremony was held today at “General Jovan Miskovic” barracks in Belgrade. After six months of training, 54of them were promoted into the rank of second lieutenants of the Armed Forces of Serbia, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Serbia.
The three highest ranked men – Dragan Stanar, Milos Kalanj and Pavko Koprivica were handed the acknowledgements by Head of the Military Academy Major General Mladen Vuruna.
Addressing the guests, the highest ranked with an average grade of 10, reserve Second Lieutenant Dragan Stanar said that it was a great honor for him to have the chance to speak on behalf of his colleagues, and that it was precisely them who, as an academic elite, have the duty to be first in defending and strengthening their country, “with their wisdom and their swords”, which was the answer to why they were there today.
- In front of you are the people that are no longer strangers and that know their goal and mission – to defend, help and knowingly risk everything for those who do the same for you. This is the meaning of this unit and the military as such – Stanar pointed out, adding that this generation had the luck of not having to wait for the war to show what they are capable of.
Head of the National Defence School Colonel Mile Jelic stressed the significance of education of reserve officers for the defence system, and especially for the Armed Forces of Serbia, for providing successful staff and preparations for the country’s defence.
- The source of our strength lies in knowledge and the glorious tradition of our military, with the awareness that education is the main initiative of development of the defence system of our country. The significance of reserve officers has been confirmed throughout the past and still is – Colonel Jelic pointed out, reminding that they are the dominant part of any military’s reinforcement, and that any armed forces would be “an empty school” without them.
