A professional soldier - the winner in Guca

Дејан ЈевђићJudges’ Award for the best orchestra at the 54th Dragacevo Assembly in Guca was won by the ensemble of Dejan Jevdjic from Pozega. Dejan has been a professional soldier at the Armed Forces of Serbia since 2002. He has also tried parachuting, and, at the moment, he is at the Central Logistics Base in Pozega.

Dejan’s greatest successes are the three “Golden Trumpets” in Guca – in 2011, 2012 and 2013, after which he was awarded the greatest trumpet acknowledgement this year – “The Master’s Letter”. He has also accomplished a noted success in Lobez, Poland, where he won First Place at the International Brass Bands Competition.

At this year’s Guca Assembly, the representative of the Russian Embassy handed over “The Golden Night” plaque to Dejan, which he had earned at this year’s festival in Stavropol, Russia.

Trumpet playing has been a tradition of many decades in the Jevdjic family. Dejan’s great-grandfather played the trumpet, and he was also the trumpet player during the First World War. Dejan’s grandfather Ljubo continued playing the trumpet, and so did Dejan’s father Aco.

With his brothers Slobodan and Branko, Dejan formed the nine-member orchestra in December, 2000, and, in the following year, they won the “Zlatiborska Pletenica” Award for the most authentic style of playing at the competition of Western Serbia trumpet players on Zlatibor.

The orchestra has so far won numerous awards, has had many performances and appearances in television programs and shows abroad, and in 2005 they recorded their first CD for PGP RTS. Their repertoire is diverse: from old authentic songs and dances to modern music, and music from other parts of Serbia, especially from the southern and eastern regions of Serbia.
