Play �People of Thessaloniki Speak� for members of the Armed Forces of Serbia
At the National Theatre in Belgrade, on the “Rasa Plaovic” stage, a play titled “People of Thessaloniki Speak” was performed today for members of the Armed Forces of Serbia from commands, units and institutions of the Belgrade Garrison and for cadets of the Military Academy. According to Dusan Djokovic, Director of the Academy of Arts in Belgrade, Academy’s wish was to give away 150 tickets to members of the Armed Forces of Serbia who had taken part in providing aid at flooded municipalities during the state of emergency in Serbia during the previous month.
- We wanted to give them a present of a “history lesson” in this year of jubilee, when we mark the centenary from the beginning of the First World War and to reward them, in a way, for everything they have done in the last period – Djokovic said.
The play “People of Thessaloniki Speak” has been enlisted in the official program of the marking of the centenary from the First World War. According to a book by Antony Đurić, a play for stage performance was prepared and directed by Cisana Murusidze. It is performed in joint forces of students of the Belgrade Academy of Art and the Republika Srpska’s Academy of Art based in Banjaluka.
Characters of Milunka Savic, Budimir Davidovic, Miladin Miletic, Mijat Gredeljevic, Vojin Marjanovic and the rest are played by Marija Djajic, Sasa Simovic, Stefan Kovacevic, Ivan Perkovic, Darko Ivic, Danilo Kerkez and Srdja Bjelogrlic. In the new setup, actor Ivan Bosiljcic tells Regent Alexander’s speech, Miodrag Marjanovic plays the King of Monetengro Nikola, Archibald Reiss’s speech is given by Tanasije Uzunovic, and the message from the Serbian mother is given by actress Branka Zoric Vasovic. The play incorporates a video recording by Vasa Pantelic, showing Major Gavrilovic’s commandment and the “Ode to a Blue Sea Tomb” by Milutin Bojic, as well as religious chants performed by Oliver Njego and Vukasin Savic.
