Strategic Research Institute marks its Day

The Strategic Research Institute has celebrated today its day - 10th May and the 30th anniversary of existence. The ceremony in the Central Military Club was attended by the State Secretary Zoran Djordjevic, Assistant Ministers of Defence, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, members of the diplomatic corps, the staff of the Institute, many associates, colleagues and guests.

Mr Miroslav Jovanovic, Assistant Minister for Defence Policy, congratulated all the employees the Day of the Institute emphasizing that the development of scientific research at the present time is the essence of sustainable development of each country.

- Scientific research capacities have been considered for decades to be an extremely important resource of the defence system, the Assistant Minister said, adding that the institute is one of the major proponents of scientific research of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces and as such it makes an important contribution by its strategic analyses and security risk assessments for our state.

Addressing the meeting, Dr Jovanka Saranovic, Director of the Institute, said that the defence system of the Republic of Serbia recognizes the importance of a balanced functionally integrated, systemically organised and methodology-based scientific research in social sciences and humanities.

- Having regard to the tasks and purpose of the Institute we applied for its accreditation. We expect the process of accreditation to be finished in the next two to three months, Saranovic said, noting that the conditions will be obtained then for the institute to become part of the scientific community and take the place which belongs to it on the grounds of the results of its work. The director said that in the future the staff of the Institute will seek also to respond appropriately and timely to all of the tasks set before them, and that their specific task will be to provide the conditions for the proper development of young scientists.

Today's ceremony was an opportunity for the Assistant Minister for Defence Policy to present awards to the best ones in the Institute, and Director Saranovic presented letters of thanks to the representatives of foreign organizations who have been supporting the work of the Institute for years.

The Strategic Research Institute was founded in 1984 in the process of transformation of the JNA "Marshal Tito" Centre of Higher Military Schools and the JNA General Staff Centre for Strategic Research into a new integrated scientific-educational institution. By its many years of work, the Institute has shown that it occupies one of the most influential positions in the world of scientific research, not only in the country but also abroad.
