Emergency meeting of the collegium of the Minister of Defence



On the occasion of the two cases of suicide of the professional soldiers in the Serbian Armed Forces, in Kraljevo and Begec, on 2nd May, Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic has convened today an expert meeting of the collegium to discuss these cases and they proposed measures for increasing prevention and refinement of operating procedures of the psychological service, strengthening its functional and human resources, intensifying the work of prevention and medical teams and referral for early previews of those persons who have been found to have need for such kind of help .

The meeting, attended, in addition to members of the Collegium, by representatives of psychological service, highlighted the current organized and intensive work of that service in the Serbian Armed Forces in the prevention of these adverse events, which is why the death rate based on suicide is three times lower in the military than among the population of Serbia.

One of the conclusions of today's meeting of the collegium of the Minister of Defence is that the members of the Serbian Armed Forces are safer than other parts of the population because they undergo regular medical controls, have more secure financial situation and share the expressed values in the Serbian Armed Forces on its place and role in the society.
