Chess Tournament in Military Grammar School opens



Chess Tournament entitled New Hopes of Chess has opened today at the Military Grammar School in Belgrade. The second tournament this year, according to the organizer, is richer and fuller than that in the previous year.

The audience was addressed by Lieutenant Colonel Veljko Buckovic, Teacher in the Military Grammar School and Major Radoslav Jocic, head of the chess section at the school. The speakers were also Vladimir Prelovac, President of the Zivojin Misic Association for Development of the Information Society, and Alexander Indjic, current champion of Serbia in chess, who wished to all a lot of success, not only today but also in the future.

Lieutenant Colonel Buckovic recited a speech about the famous Field Marchal Zivojin Misic and Major Jocic wished to all a lot of success in today's competition and thanked for the "good synergy for which the competition was organized" wishing the tournament to become traditional.

Before the competition, the film about the Military Grammar School was shown, and then the current champion of the tournament marked the start with a symbolic "drawing the first chess move".

Within the first day of competition five different types of tournaments – tournament of children under 10, tournament of children under 14, amateur tournament, team tournament of the members of the Serbian Armed Forces and internet match of the children from Slovenia and Serbia.

Tournament of children under 10 will include eight players, according to Berger all-play-all system, and the tournaments under 14 will include 24 players, according to the Swiss system of computer pairing.

The amateur tournament includes 32 players, while the team tournament of the Serbian Armed Forces includes several teams – teams of the Military Grammar School, Military Academy, the team of retired officers and others. The awards are medals, diplomas, prints, chess software, chess sets and literature.
