In the gallery of the Central Military Club tonight, the exhibition of paintings "Greece in mind and heart of Serbian painters" by Nikola Kusovac, art historian and long-time curator of the National Museum in Belgrade has been opened.

The opening was attended by Zoran Djordjevic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, Miloš Jankovic, Deputy Minister for Human Resources, Major General Jovica Draganic, Deputy Chief of General Staff, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, collectors, owners of the exposed paintings, the authors, numerous guests and citizens.

The exhibition was opened by His Excellency Konstantinos Ikonomidis Ambassador of Greece in Belgrade, who expressed his satisfaction that he was given that honour and said that this exhibition is a proof of love between Serbian and Greek people connected by religion, tradition and common struggle for freedom.

- This exhibition opens exactly on the day when the Serbian Armed Forces celebrates its day. There is a symbolism of today's exhibition because we are to face common struggle for a better tomorrow and a better future in the European Union, the Ambassador said, adding that he was glad that he was the Ambassador to Serbia, when it started the accession negotiations with the European Union.

The audience was welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel Slavoljub M. Markovic, Director of the Odbrana Media Centre, who said that today's exhibition is a holiday of painting and beauty that connects the two brotherly peoples.

- First, it could be said that this is a thematic exhibition, as it brings together disparate visual artists and artistic expression in one place, Lieutenant Colonel Markovic said, particularly noting that these are the works of visual artists who occupy a significant place in the history of Serbian painting.

The author of the exhibition, Nikola Kusovac, says for himself that he is only the executor of the behest.

- That behest was left to us, the Serbs, by our ancestors, those whose bones are found from Zejtinlik to the Blue grave; and those who survived and were received by brotherly, affectionate Greek people of the same religion, who did not put up with them, but treated them and cuddled them - Kusovac said, adding that he worked on this project for a long time, and that the authors of the work in which we enjoy are the artists whom he admires, many of whom he learned a lot, and who represent for him a part of his life and personal history.

The exhibition, which takes place during the Greek presidency of the EU, includes forty-two pieces by eminent visual artists of great importance for the history of the modern Serbian fine art.

Those who are interested can see the exhibition in the Gallery of the Central Military Club until 10th May, every day except Sunday, from 11:00 to 19:00. Admission is free.
