Donation to the Self Access English Learning Centre
In Pancevo "National Hero Stevica Jovanovic" barracks today, within the continued cooperation on the PELT programme, books and magazines in English language were delivered to the Self-Access English Learning Centre.
The donation was handed over by the defence attachés of donor countries in this training program in the field of English language teaching: the United States, Norway, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark.
Thanking for the present and greeting the guests, Brigadier General Dragosav Lackovic, Head of Personnel Department, said that this has already been a traditional cooperation with the armies of friendly countries, for which he hopes that will continue.
- The donation will be useful to us and I am glad that it came to those who need it, not only to the participants of our courses but also to teachers, and it would greatly enhance the learning in the Self-Access English Learning Centre in Pancevo barracks, General Lackovic said.
Colonel Esben Aass, Defence Attaché of the Kingdom of Norway and Co-Chairman of the PELT Programme, expressed his satisfaction that, after the visit at the opening of the Centre, he is again in Pancevo and he is especially happy because he sees that the programme works here as well.
- It is important to learn foreign languages, not only because it is necessary to communicate effectively during our joint stay in peacekeeping missions, but also to be well understood at gatherings like this – General Aass said.
Colonel Paul Brotzen, U.S. Defence Attaché, expressed his satisfaction that it is for the first time that representatives of all donors to the PELT programme gathered in Pancevo and explained that part of the magazines and books comes from the personal collections of the ambassadors of the USA and the United Kingdom.
After a brief presentation of the Centre, the guests, including Colonel Stanko Vasiljevic, Chief of Staff of the Training Command, visited the History room of the NCO Training and Development Centre, after which the meeting of the Management Board of the PELT group was held where further steps of cooperation were agreed.
Today's donation will help the methodical-professional preparation of English teachers in the adoption of new methods of learning (Task-Based Learning) for the purpose of a more effective use of SAC in developing operational capabilities of participants in semi-intensive English language courses as part of a cycle of training members of the Serbian Armed Forces for testing according to STANAG 6001.
