Intensified cooperation with the Russian Federation



Colonel Milan Konjikovac, Acting Chief of the Department for International Military Cooperation, met today with Colonel Valery I. Volkov Defence Attaché of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Serbia. On this occasion, they analyzed the previous cooperation, as well as trends of future relations in the field of defence.

It was concluded that the defence cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation has intensified in recent years, so that it can be concluded that it reached the level of excellent general political relations and strategic cooperation between the two friendly countries.

Numerous meetings of top military officials of the two countries during the past year and the activities planned for this year, represent an unambiguous confirmation of implementation of the conclusions and policies adopted during the visit of General of the Army Sergei K. Shoigu, Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, in November 2013.

In an open and friendly discussion it was noted that the activities from the Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2014, including the top-level mutual visits, will further contribute to the essential development of relations in all aspects of the defence cooperation.

The focus of the planned activities will be on joint exercises and training that will enhance the functional and operational capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces and contribute to the intensification of general cooperation in the field of defence. In addition, the realization of activities in the field of military medicine and cooperation of the air forces of the Serbian Armed Forces and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has been envisaged.

Possibilities for coordination of activities in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War and 70th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade from the fascist occupation during World War II were discussed.

At the end of the meeting, the Acting Chief of the Department for International Military Cooperation signed the Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan between the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation for 2014 in the presence of the Defence Attaché of the Russian Federation.
