Briefing for foreign military representatives about the defence budget for 2014
In the Annex Hall of the Topčider House of Guard, today, foreign military representatives accredited to the Republic of Serbia had regular briefing about the defence budget for 2014. It was organized by the Sector for Budget and Finance of the Ministry of Defence.Welcoming the audience, State Secretary Zoran Djordjevic pointed out that the Ministry of Defence can serve as an example of good practice for other institutions. Among the changes that have marked the year that is behind us, he pointed out that the internal audit is now subordinate to the Minister of Defence and reports only to him.
Pointing to the complex financial situation, which is largely reflected in the budget allocated to the Ministry of Defence, State Secretary Djordjevic recalled the quote by Walter Lippmann that “Literature was once an art and finance a trade. Today, literature is a trade, and finance art".
Colonel Sasa Trandafilović, PhD, Head of the Budget Department, in the follow on of the meeting pointed out the main characteristics of the defence budget for 2014, referring to the elements related to the budgetary policy of the Ministry of Defence.The final part of today's event was reserved for questions of foreign military representatives, who were most interested in the possibilities and ways how can the Government of the Republic of Serbia assist the Ministry of Defence to overcome the problems in acquisition of equipment and means.
