Minister Rodic visits Security Agency



Defence Minister Nebojsa Rodic has visited today the Military Security Agency. During the first official visit to the Agency, Minister Rodic spoke with Colonel Petar Cvetkovic, the recently appointed Deputy Director of VBA, met with the heads of that Agency, and visited the operations centre from which the operations conducted by the VBA are managed.

On this occasion, the Minister pointed out that he visited the Great Warriors' Hall several times, but it is an opportunity to thank once again to former director Svetko Kovac for everything he did in his work to preserve the integrity and prosperity of the VBA.

- My intention is to do all my best to make the VBA to be even more credible in the future. We must work on rejuvenating the Agency, to admit young people who would be driven only by a genuine desire for progress, which will not mean individualization, but the team spirit – Minister Rodic pointed out, adding that during his recent visit to the United States he talked with representatives of the defence intelligence agencies and was assured in their attitude that the future is in education and learning.

Minister Rodic recalled of the Law on Military Security Agency and Military Intelligence Agency enacted in 2003 and applied since then, assessing that now we have enough experience to work on what should result in the future for the aforementioned agencies to be more expeditious and respectable in their work.

In the future, said Minister of Defence, we must achieve a functional unity of military security more than ever before.

- The security system in the Republic of Serbia is indivisible – Minister Rodic stressed adding that functional unity of the military security must exist, and operational and organizational unity must be achieved also with the civil society. We must do everything to minimize threats and strengthen the ability of countering security challenges that exist, working on the successful development of intelligence capacity, Defence Minister Nebojsa Rodic concluded.

Welcoming the Minister of Defence on behalf of all members of the Agency, Colonel Cvetkovic, Deputy Director of the VBA, said that today's visit was an opportunity to present to the Minister capabilities, capacities and problems that the Agency faces in its work to preserve the safety of our armed forces and of the state as a whole.

At the end of the previous year, the VBA marked in a ceremony ten years since it was presented to the public under this new name on 26 December 2003.
