Bomb remaining from WWII destroyed

At the Center for ttesting of weapons and military equipment Technical Test Center in Nikinci today at 10:45 minutes an unexploded air bomb remaining from of World War II was destroyed which was found on 7 December and excavated in Budimska Street in Belgrade after which it was transported on the night between 7 at 8 December to Nikinci .

Destruction of the bombs was attended by Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army, General Ljubisa Diković , Head of Planning and Development of Staff Major General Dusan Stojanovic , representatives of the TOC , the Ministry of Interior and the State Seismological Bureau .

In this unique endeavor which has been performed for the first time at the Center in Nikinci the members of the Logistics Department of the General Staff of the Serbian Army , TOC , 333rd Engineering Battalion out of the Air Force and representatives of the Republican Seismological Service have been involved , who have set up sophisticated measuring devices at 50 and 500 yards and in two neighboring villages ( 5-6 km away ) .

- We conducted a controlled explosion to avoid inflicting damage to anyone around the polygon . The bomb was dug to a depth of four meters , a crater that was created after its activation was five feet deep. The explosive was placed in the right way around the bomb to its direct effect down to earth , not to the side , so that the damage was minimal - said Colonel Slobodan Ilic , Director of Technical Testing Center.
.
The whole process of supervising, placing the bomb as well as the expert work around destroying bombs was led by Lieutenant Colonel Rasim Ciriković from the Directorate of Logistics SAF , and the honor of pressing the button went to Lt Sinisa Gacic which neutralized the bomb.

- In the case of the SC -1000 bomb Herman , I was familiar with its construction and how it should be tackled. We accomplished this by placing the explosive in three characteristic places. It was activated electronically. The destruction was complete . It was a controlled detonation. I believe that this work was done professionally . This action is the result of teamwork - said Lt. Col. Ciriković .

The bomb weighed 1,090 kg with a time fuse marked Z15 . Any time of activation is from 3 to 315 minutes . In relation to the total weight of the bomb had the explosive charge 57 percent , while today's airline bomb with about 40 percent . In that amount of explosives is about 60 percent TNT and 40 percent Amato . This means , according to NATO standards , that the explosive effect for people was 170 m , if it is activated on the surface of the road infrastructure around the 200 meters and 400 meters for buildings . The bomb was dropped from a German plane " Henkel ", which could carry only one such ordnance .

- This was a text book example of destroying a bomb, said Chief of Staff after successful completion.

And almost inaudibly we should add. This was confirmed by Vladan Kovacevic of the Republican Seismological Bureau , who said that the measuring instrument at a distance of 500 meters did not register anything.
