Ceremony marking the day of the army
Commander of the army Lt Col Aleksandar Zivkovic in his welcome address reminded the present of the glorious days of the Serbian army.
- Different worlds cultures and civilizations collided, mixed and intertwined here. Many armies crossed paths
- The Serbian army which grew tougher through the Balkan wars faced the first onslaught of the enemy in the great War. The geniality of leaders and the decisiveness of Serbian soldiers, NCOs and officers are the example how we should defend our motherland. The victory in the Kolubara demonstrated how the Serbian army faced with a complete breakdown could reorganize in a short period of time while overcoming a much more powerful enemy.
In the cultural program at the academy the art ensemble Stanislav Binicki, the Nis chamber choir and the actors of the National theatre in Nis, together with Bora Dugic, famous performer on the Serbian pipe, and vocal soloists Merima Njegomir and Aleksa Vasic.
On occasion of marking the day of the Army a ceremony was held today where the most distinguished members were awarded medals for exceptional deeds and achievements.
The day of the army is marked on 16 November in memory of the beginning of Kolubara battle in 1914 which ended in driving the enemy out of Serbia.
