Briefing for the foreign military representatives on military service



In the Department for Defence Obligations today, in cooperation with the Department for International Military Cooperation and the Serbian Armed Forces Training Command, the foreign military representatives were briefed on "The experiences of voluntary military service in the Serbian Armed Forces".

In his opening speech, Colonel Milic Stanic, Head of Department for Defence Obligations, emphasized the importance of voluntary military service under arms and its place in the process of professionalization of the Serbian Armed Forces.

The guests were informed about the normative and legal framework of voluntary military service, characteristics of the referral deadlines in 2012 and 2013 and about the experience in the application of the concept of voluntary military service under arms in the training centres of the Serbian Armed Forces.

During the briefing, foreign military representatives expressed the most interest in gender equality, percentage of soldiers transferring into active service after completing voluntary military service, and the opportunity to acquire certificates that will, upon completion of the training, provide them employment in the civilian sector.

At the very end, Colonel Stanic pointed out that voluntary military service under arms in the Serbian Armed Forces represents a solid base of trained conscripts to fill the ranks with professional soldiers, for active reserve and rejuvenation of military and the officer's corps of the war units of the Serbian Armed Forces with passive reserve.

Voluntary military service facilitates the fulfilling of obligations relating to the Law on Defence and meeting the needs of citizens for the preservation of tradition.
