Marking the centenary of the birth of Isidor Papo at MMA



On the occasion of marking the centenary of the birth of Academician Professor General Dr. Isidor Papo, one of the foremost surgeons in our region, a memorial bust was unveiled today at the Military Medical Academy, and publication "Isidor Papo – Life and Work" by Dr. Vladimir Jankovic et alia was presented.

The ceremony of unveiling of the bust was attended by the Head of the Military Health Department Prof. Brigadier General Zoran Popovic, Rector of the University of Defence Professor Lieutenant General Miodrag Jevtic, members of the expanded collegium of the Head of the Military Medical Academy and Austrian surgeons who are currently attending a course on war surgery at MMA.

Unveiling the memorial bust, Head of the MMA Professor Brigadier General Dr. Marijan Novakovic said that General Papo is one of the great personalities of the Serbian military medicine who has achieved everything that can be achieved in professional and academic terms. He added that his bust should remind cadets and physicians at MMA of the professional and moral obligation to continually develop themselves. Commitment to the profession and science and constant desire for improvement is something by which Academician Papo was distinguished from the others, and because of all that he remained remembered in the history of Serbian medicine as a physician whose example can still serve as an example for others to learn about the life and profession of a doctor.

Speakers about the publication "Isidor Papo – Life and Work", apart from Dr. Jokanovic were also the Head of the MMA, Professor Major General Retired Dr. Mihajlo Djuknic, prim. Major General retired Branislav Popovic, Retired Colonel Primarius Dusan Milic, and the head of the Clinic for General Surgery Primarius Colonel Mile Ignjatovic.

Attendees had opportunity to hear the impressions of the contemporaries of General Papo, people who have worked closely with the surgeon whose reputation was known in all the continents, to get acquainted with the details of his professional and personal development and see the role he had in his time, which he will keep also in the years to come.
