Send off for our peacekeepers to Cyprus



At the barracks, " Prince Milailo" in Nis , a festive send-off was organize for 46 members of the Third Battalion of the Military Police of the Army of Serbia who will be spending the next 6 months in multinational peacekeeping operations in Cyprus.

The ceremony was attended by Major General Milosav Simovic, deputy commander of the Army Brigadier General Zelimir Glisovic , commander of the Third Army Brigade , and his associates. This was the fifth rotation of SAF troops stationed in Cyprus.

General Simovic reminded the officers, NCOs and soldiers that the peacekeeping operation in Cyprus was established in 1965 in order to prevent violence between the Turkish and Greek Cypriots .

-We have 46 members currently stationed there. 35 of you from the firing platoon of the Military Police Third Battalion will be in contact with members of the armed forces of Hungary , Slovakia, China , Canada, Argentina , Austria, and together you will perform combat tasks . I expect you to represent the 3 Military Police Battalion , Third Brigade , SAF, the Army of Serbia and our country worthily- said the deputy commander of the Army .

According to captain Milan Ristic , platoon commander , he , his deputy and platoon commanders have already visited the area so as to observe and describe the situation on site.

- In addition , we all went through a five-week training and had a three-day evaluation exercise during which our readiness to participate in this multinational operations was assessed – as Captain Ristic said on this occasion.

Peacekeepers were sen off by family members and friends .
