Mediterranean 05 exercise

At the test site Borovac near "Jug" base the Military Police 3rd battalion’s firing platoon is undergoing a 3 day evaluation as it will replace the Serbian troops, engaged in the Slovakian- Hungarian contingent in the peacekeeping mission in Cyprus from 18 to 25 September in the fifth rotation,
Exercise " Mediterranean 05" is the culmination of a five-week training of the platoon, which started on 15 July in Nis and five days of the preparations just before the evaluation process conducted at the Center for Peace Operations in Belgrade.

Over the next three days an experienced army evaluation team shall assess the capabilities of the MP firing platoon with two members of the First Brigade of the Army deployed for performing tasks based on the experience gained during the previous rotation, which will then be implemented in a peacekeeping mission in Cyprus.

- Given the experience in the training of training units for multinational operations, the quality of training and exercise to be conducted here, we can say that our always very high expectations will surely be fulfilled, said the evaluation team leader Major Igor Jankovic. - Guest capacity and preparedness of the unit that goes on a mission to Cyprus we will pass in accordance with national regulations. In this sense, their preparedness will be assessed in two segments. The first is the ability to perform tasks in a multinational operation, and the second is to check the acquired level of interoperability .

Major Dejan Videnović spoke about the contents of a three-day evaluation exercise "Mediterranean 05".

- At the test site the events and activities taking place mimic those our troops might encounter in the base camp, permanent and temporary checkpoint on the observation stations, and while patrolling the area of operations in Cyprus , said Videnović . - In the divided Mediterranean island members of the platoon will perform a variety of tasks, in accordance with the mission that performed there . Their level of competence to carry out these tasks will depend on the degree of interoperability unit with other units of the army, engaged in a peacekeeping mission. It is therefore essential that this exercise mimic the real situation in Cyprus. Given our experience gained over several years, I believe the results will be within expectations.

Talking about his expectations from the exercise , which should show how well the declared unit is trained to perform numerous tasks, platoon captain Milan Ristic said :

- In Cyprus we will be performing three different tasks . Two departments will be stationed in " Stefan Nemanja" base and engaged in the task of patrolling the area of responsibility in Sector 4, one department will perform surveillance tasks in the village of Bilo , and the two departments are in the camp , " General Štefanek " where they are tasked with securing the base. The results shown from mid-July to date give us every to hope for our team to be given highest marks as well as success in performing the tasks we will be performing abroad, said Capt. Ristic.
