Marking the anniversary of Karadjordje's death



In the church of St. George Church in Topola by laying wreaths and paying state and military honors the 196th anniversary of the death of the leader of the First Serbian Uprising, Karadjordje was marked.

Laurel wreaths beside the sarcophagus Karadjordje were laid by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy Negovan Stankovic, the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, manager of the Karadjordjevic estate Dragan Veljic and representatives of the association for preserving tradition and liberation wars until 1918.

Karadjordje Petrovic was the leader of the First Serbian Uprising and one of the most important military commanders in Serbia between in 1804 and in 1813. His biggest successes on the battlefield were the Battles of Ivankovac in 1805, the battle on Misar and Deligrad in 1806 and the battle for the liberation of Belgrade in 1807. Karadjordje was killed on 25 July in 1817 in Radovanjski Lug near Velika Plana.

Marking the anniversary of the death of the celebrated leader of the First Serbian Uprising, Serbia pays tribute to Karadjordje - the founder of the modern Serbian state.
