Meeting with the representative of International Transparency UK



Assistant Minister for Defence Miroslav Jovanovic met with a representative of the "Defence and Security Programme" organization "Transparency International UK," retired Brigadier General, Alan Waldron.

Topics included estimates rof corruption related risks in the defense of the Republic of Serbia, according to the survey conducted by "Transparency International" published in January 2013, based on the observed indicators in 2011 (according to which the Republic of Serbia as having "A PLUS" – meaning it was observed that there was a high degree of risk of corruption in the department of defense), as well as opportunities for cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and the "International Transparency" in the future.

It was concluded that both sides have an interest in future research and training of staff to increase capacity within the Ministry of defense so it can identify critical areas for the possible occurrence of corruption, organized crime and violation of professional integrity, as well as to collaborate on the development of mechanisms that would help these adverse forms be reduced as much as possible.

It was recommended that through exchange of info, a draft agreement which would regulate long-term cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and the "Transparency International" be harmonzied, with possible involvement of partner countries and international organizations.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Strategic Planning and Strategic Research Institute Department of Defense Policy.
