The meeting of Serbia-NATO Defence Reform Group (DRG)



In the House of Guards a regular meeting of the Serbia - NATO Defence Reform Group led by Deputy Minister for Defence Miroslav Jovanovic was held today.

The meeting was attended by the Head of the Strategic Planning Department of Security Policy Major General Prof.. Mitar Kovac who is also the executive coordinator of the Group, including work tables coordinators, representatives of NATO, the military representatives of 18 member states of the EU, NATO and Partnership for Peace, as well as representatives of the NATO Military Liaison Office (MLO) in Belgrade.

The main focus of the meeting were presentation of activities that the Ministry of Defence and the Army of Serbia had implemented from February to June 2013, in order to achieve partnership goals. Furthermore, the current participation of MoD and SAF in multinational operations under the auspices of the UN and the EU, as well as opportunities to participate in the Republic of Serbia in the IPAP and PARP mechanisms.

In line with the available capacities of the MoD and SAF, which can be deployed for the training of forces for participation in multinational operations, the Deputy Minister for Defence Miroslav Jovanovic pointed out the existing capacity of the RCBD Centre Training Center in Krusevac and Base "JUG".

During the presentation, DRG work tables presented theirrequests for assistance during the implementation of the following activities, in particular for joint engagement with representatives of the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Great Britain, Norway, Denmark and the United States.

With regard to the eligibility of the declared units MoD and to participate in multinational operations, expressed satisfaction with the level of training, as shown in the exercise of these units "SHIELD 2013", realized in the mixed training ground "Pasuljanske livade." During the exercise, in accordance with the procedures for the engagement of the Operational Capabilities Concept, eight SAF evaluators in the presence of three observers from NATO and foreign military representatives accredited to the Republic of Serbia, self-evaluation process at level 2 (SEL-2) was conducted. The results achieved during the self-evaluation of level 2 (SEL-2) will be analyzed in order to prepare the declared units for participation in the NATO evaluation level 2 (NEL-2).

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Minister for Defence Miroslav Jovanovic and a representative of the Directorate of Force Planning of NATO Frank Boland, emphasized the progress made in the previous work of the Group, expressing their belief that the future activities will be carried out with the support of NATO, the "Partnership for Peace "and the EU, in order to achieve the accepted goals of the Partnership.
