International Nurses day marked at the MMA



At the ceremony in the amphitheater of the Military Medical Academy today the International  Nurses day was marked today. The Head of the MMA Brigadier General prof. Dr. Marijan Novakovic congratulated the day to all nurses. He recalled that the Military Medical Academy has a long tradition of nurturing the profession of nurses with five of our nurses having received medals "Florence Nightingale", awarded by the International Red Cross for establishing and developing the profession.

General Novakovic said that this day was always marked as one of the most important at the Academy and certainly as the favorite date. He also spoke about the future of nursing and emphasized that one of the priorities is investing continuation of medical education of nurses and technicians.

The Head of the MMA commented on the importance of a close contact of nurses and patients and said:

- No matter how burdened you may be with your work, everyday problems, insufficient income, and I know you are, there always has to be a kind word. These problems must not be an excuse for treating those for whom we exist, our patients. Your job as a nurse, even in much better situated countries is primarily based on enthusiasm and humanity.

Head nurse at MMA Verica Milovanovic said that nursing is extremely difficult, demanding and important profession in the health system as a whole, and that the current nursing requires following new principles and new conceptions of human health and the delivery of health care. She finally said that health care in MMA has always been at a high level and it is still a good practice example and role model for others how to do.

At the ceremonial meeting Milena Ratkovic was declared the best nurse of the MMA for year 2012, head nurse of the Nephrology Clinic MMA. Beside her, on the occasion of the World Day of nursing Ljubinka Davidovic, Ljiljana Stojkovic, Jelena Jankovic, Dubravka Obradovic and Andja Grubisic also received awards.

International Nurses Day is celebrated in memory of Florence Nightingale whose work made a strong contribution in the formation of modern professional nursing.
