Cooperation with the Netherlands



Head of the International Military Cooperation Department Brigadier General Ljubomir Nikolic received a two-member delegation of the Kingdom of Netherlands led by Defence Attaché Lieutenant Colonel Robbert Verbrugh.

Brigadier General Nikolic assessed that defence cooperation with the Netherlands is at a satisfactory level and that there is a good percentage of the implementation of the planned activities. He thanked the representative of the Kingdom of Netherlands on the assistance in the organization of courses on law of armed conflict and civil-military relations, and on further support in the development of the "NCO" project. Since the maximum level of cooperation has been achieved in the area of education, Brigadier General Nikolic invited the Dutch side in the forthcoming period to bring in proposals for the quantitative and qualitative improvement of cooperation.

Lieutenant Colonel Verbrugh assessed that cooperation in the field of defence was good and noted that the Netherlands intends to continue to work on the active promotion of cooperation with Serbia despite severe budget cuts.

Bilateral cooperation in the field of defence primarily takes place through support to the development of the NCO corps, development of the capacity of civil-military relations and civil-military cooperation, the implementation of humanitarian law in armed conflicts and the exchange of experiences concerning the issue of gender equality.

At the meeting, bilateral military cooperation plan for 2013 was agreed and signed.
