Bilateral Defence Consultations with Turkey



In the Department for International Military Cooperation today bilateral defence consultations have been held with the delegation of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces. In formal discussions, the delegations were led by the head of the International Military Cooperation Department Brigadier General Ljubomir Nikolic and Head of the Section for Bilateral Relations of the Department for International Military Relations of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces Colonel Metin Uzel.

They exchanged views on all aspects of bilateral military cooperation as well as on the activities of the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Serbia in the framework of regional cooperation and participation in multinational operations.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation achieved in the field of defence and a tendency to further improvement. The cooperation is characterized by high-level meetings and a great number of activities. The focus of the cooperation is on the activities in the framework of regional security integration and initiatives, education and training, participation in joint exercises of Special Forces, and military economic cooperation.

Activities from the 2013 Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan, along with the training activities of the members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in various courses at the Centre of Excellence for the fight against terrorism and PfP Training Centre, facilitate further qualitative improvement of cooperation.
