Bilateral military cooperation with Sweden



The delegation of the Swedish Armed Forces, headed by the Deputy Chief of the International sector Col. Lenart Danielson is paying a visit to the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army from 10 to 13 December 2012, as part of regular bilateral consultations and signing bilateral military cooperation plan for 2013.

During talks as part of holding defense consultations, the Head of the International Military Cooperation Colonel Ljubomir Nikolic said he was pleased with the Swedish decision to sign a bilateral military cooperation plan with a state although this country does not sign bilateral agreements in the field of defense. Colonel Nikolic said that the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia has traditionally maintained friendly relations with Nordic countries and the signing of the Plan with the Kingdom of Sweden, is only one of many indicators that we share the same European ideas and values and respect for the status of neutrality.

Colonel Danielson agreed that both Sweden and Serbia, as a countries, have many similarities as well as emphasizing Sweden’s commitment to improve the current level of cooperation with Serbia. Sweden strongly supports Serbia's European integration and is willing to help Serbia along the way, while showing special interest in establishing cooperation in military economy.

After bilateral consultations, a bilateral military cooperation plan for 2013 was signed. Cooperation will be conducted mostly through education and training, training of special units and achieving partnership goals, especially in the field of standardization and interoperability.

During their stay in Serbia, the Swedish delegation visited the University of Defence, river flotilla and the Military Technical Institute, where they were acquainted with the capacities and opportunities for improving cooperation.
