The Embassy of Slovakia takes over the duty of contact point embassy with the NATO

In the embassy of the Czech Republic a ceremony was held today marking the end of the Embassy’s mandate as the NATO contact point embassy for Serbia and to hand over the duty to the Embassy of the Republic of Slovakia. On that occasion His Excellence, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Yan Varsho has assumed the mandate from Her Excellency Hanna Hubatchova, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic.

The ceremony was attended by Assistant minister of defence for defence policy Miroslav Jovanovic, SAF Deputy Chief Major general Milan Bjelica, representatives of MoD, MFA, SAF, Ambassadors to Republic of Serbia and foreign DAs.

The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Serbia thanked Serbia for cooperation and support given in previous years mentioning that Serbia had achieved excellent results in cooperation with NATO. She wished further success to the Embassy of Slovakia as the new NATO contact point embassy for Serbia.

New mandate holder Ambassador Varsho stressed that in the next two years the embassy of Slovakia as a NATO contact point embassy would strive to continue good cooperation the Czech Republic has had in the previous term.

-We want to cooperate with other institutions in Serbia and with the NATO HQ in Brussels. Security and defence are part of state policy, so we are glad that our colleagues from the Czech Republic had made progress within the Partnership for Peace Programme. We shall continue cooperation with the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Assembly, and some NGOs, as well as with the cooperation of our countries in the areas of security, not only multilateral but bilateral cooperation as well, as the Ambassador of Slovakia stated.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic was a NATO contact point embassy in Serbia since 1 January 2009. A contact embassy for NATO has a key role in disseminating information between the NATO (and its Sector for Public Diplomacy) and a given partner country.
