The Army came first to rescue



Ever since early morning, members of the Serbian Armed Forces have been engaged in all snowed areas in Vojvodina participating in clearing the roads and junctions, helping the population that was stuck in snow drifts.

Manpower and machinery of the 17th mechanized battalion of the First Army Brigade have been engaged on the old road Novi Sad – Subotica, on the part Backa Topola – Feketic which where they have recovered more than 10 buses and trucks.

Shortly before 18:00 p.m. an armoured recovery vehicle managed to pull out the overturned tanker at the location near Feketic that blocked traffic on the road, where the soldiers rescued 33 other motor vehicles, buses and trucks from the snowdrifts to get to the tanker.

During the day, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Aleksandar Vucic ordered the immediate involvement of the Serbian Armed Forces units, personnel and machinery, with the aim of helping local people in eliminating the consequences of natural disasters caused by the snowfall.

During the night, the soldiers of the First Army Brigade were preparing hot drinks and carrying them to the people who were stuck in cars in snow drifts on the roads in Voivodina.

During the snow disaster, all units of the Serbian Armed Forces will be available for helping the local population.
