State Secretary Nikolic meets with admiral Sanchez



State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Aleksandar Nikolic met today with the Chief of Staff of the armed forces of the Kingdom of Spain, Admiral Fernando Garcia Sanchez who is heading a Spanish delegation in an official two-day visit to Serbia.

During the talks, both sides reached a consensus that, although the defense cooperation had been established 2009, progress and intensity of cooperation have been increasing, as evidenced by shared commitment of the Serbian Armed Forces and the Armed Forces of Spain in the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon.

Secretary of State Nikolic commended the achieved high level of cooperation which is mostly focusing on exercises of special forces, and the exchange of experiences and participation in multinational operations.

"The Kingdom of Spain is a strategic partner for involvement in multinational operations. We are grateful for the support in the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon, where we expect to be even more engaged in the future. We intend to raise cooperation in the field of military medicine and education to a higher level, "said Secretary of State Nikolic.

Admiral Sanchez expressed interest of the Spanish delegation in intensifying defense cooperation, with the aim of raising the level of operational capabilities of both armies. He informed his interlocutor about the process of transformation of the armed forces of the Kingdom of Spain stressing that joint involvement in the operation of UNIFIL contributed to increasing defense cooperation to a higher level. He also offered the possibility of considering options for joint engagement in EU battle groups.
