Ensemble "Stanislav Binicki" in Trieste

Art Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia "Stanislav Binicki" and Academic choir "Collegium Musicum" from Belgrade, performed a concert in the Italian city of Trieste last night.

The concert was attended by representatives of the Italian Government, the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Italy, the city of Trieste, the Serbian community and the clergy.

Performance in the famous theater "Verdi", the oldest theater in the city, was organised by the Serbian Orthodox Church Community in the Municipality of Trieste and the city of Trieste.

The mayor of the northern Italian city, Roberto Kosolini, said before the show that the concert was a great opportunity to get to know Serbian culture, not only by presenting the Serbian art before the Serbian community but also to the Italians.

- I am expecting a concert that has multiple values, primarily due to integration of the Serbian community, but also because of the unification of different cultures. Trieste has a cosmopolitan character because it was Europe even before it existed, Mayor Kosolini said.

Chief of the Ensemble Lieutenant Colonel Stanislav Stojiljkovic said that the idea to have performance in Trieste was created two years ago.

- With much emotion, I can say that the concert was a success, and there are several reasons for this. First, we came to present to our people the music we play, and the second is performance in this building, a miniature of the Milan La Scala, said Lieutenant Colonel Stojiljkovic.

Under the baton of the conductor Major Igor Mitrovic, Pavle Medakovic, Darinka Matic-Marovic and Dragana Jovanovic, soloists in the concert were Suzana Suvakovic Savic – soprano, Iva Profaca – mezzo-soprano, Janko Sinadinovic – tenor, Miodrag Jovanovic – baritone, then Bora Dugic – flute and Slobodan Prodanovic – accordion.

The program was opened by playing the anthems of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Italy.

Concert in Trieste is dedicated to the Serbian old city songs and marches including "The March of King Alexander," "Serbian Waltz," "Kraljevo kolo", then "Meraki cocek", "Igrale se delije", "Tamo daleko" and others.
