Serbian Armed Forces medical team travels to DR Congo



Air medical team, which is composed of two doctors and four medical technicians is travelling tomorrow to the Democratic Republic of Congo where they are to replace our team that has been there in the UN mission MONUSCO since April this year.

Our peacekeepers were received in the General Staff by Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Major General Milan Bjelica. The reception was attended by the Head of the Peacekeeping Operations Centre, Colonel Jelesije Radivojevic.

Major Vasilije Bosnjak, Major Dusan Sofranac, Staff Sergeant Ivan Zivkovic, Staff Sergeant Ivan Jovanovic, civilians Hana Romanov and Jelena Ruskaji, who are travelling to the Democratic Republic of Congo tomorrow, constitute the Serbian medical team with the primary task of medical evacuation of injured and sick by air to the neighbouring countries according to the UN decision.

UN peacekeeping mission in DR Congo – MONUSCO was established in November 1999 by the Security Council Resolution. This is the nineteenth rotation of the air medical team (AMET) of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces that has been engaged in this peacekeeping mission since 7th March 2003.
