General Entacher visits the University of Defence



Austrian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Gen. Edmund Entacher, visited today with his associates the Defence University in Belgrade.

Expressing satisfaction over this high-ranking visit of such a distinguished guest Rector of this renowned educational institution, University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Colonel Jan Marcek, PhD, said that this institution, despite the fact that it had been founded a year and a half ago, which practically means it was the youngest university in Serbia, is of great importance for the Ministry of Defense, and the state of Serbia.

The guests were presented with the main characteristics of the university by vice chancellor for scientific - research activities Professor. Mirjana Zivotic - Vanovic, who recalled that the institution established by the Government of the Republic of Serbia, and today it has about three hundred assistants and professors.

- We have some 900 cadets and students in 20 academic study programs at the moment, and even though we are a newly-founded institution, the tradition of military education in Serbia is over 160 years old, and dates back to the 1844, when the first military hospital, said Professor Životic- Vanovic.

Colonel prof. Goran Dikic, PhD vice-chancellor for Cooperation between Universities and the Defense University, reminded the members of the Austrian GS delegation of a few examples of cooperation of Republic of Austria and Serbia educational institutions, about the progress and concrete forms of cooperation, and, as a particularly important project , mentioned the printing of the Serbian - German dictionary of military terminology.

The guests were interested in the defence system’s requirements for doctors who are studying at the university, as well as how long they are obliged to work in defense, after graduation.
