SAF help in extinguishing fire on Tara



Members of the Serbian Armed Forces deployed in the Valjevo garrison last twelve days are on the mountain of Tara, where, as part of the 3rd mission of the Serbian Army, with fire-rescue units, gendarmerie and operational team of the Sector for Emergency Situations of the Serbian Police Force participate in firefighting.

According to the commander of the second training center in Valjevo Colonel Dragoslav Sladakovi, who is the commander of the army team in Tara, in the course of the day before, the fire was localized, and in doing so, besides members of the Training Command units the soldiers the army command and air force units were also engaged on the site.

- At the site which covers 2100 hectares 210 people, 42 vehicles and
13 tanks with water were deployed in this fire fighting operation. We are currently monitoring the situation and patrolling along the line of fire, as well as on additional extinguishing, said Col. Sladakovic noting that the situation was stable and there was no more danger.

Over the past twelve days, the soldiers spent 24 hours with occasional shifts on the site. Apart from the few roads that were already in the fire, members of the Serbian Army Deforestation also cleared the woods and made a path necessary for fire fighting.

The biggest problem they faced was the fire that broke out on the night between Saturday and Sunday in the village of Stolac. However, prompt and decisive action of soldiers, stationed on Krsajnski vis, prevented the fire from spreading to the villages of Kremna, Omorika hotel and Mitrovac on Tara.
