The visit of the ONG delegation



The delegation of the Ohio National Guard visited the Serbian MoD Human Resources Sector. The aim of the visit the U.S. delegation, led by the commander of ONG special forces Brigadier General NG Ohio, Mary Kelly, was the exchange of experiences on the participation of women in the armed forces.

On this occasion, General Kelly spoke with the representative of the Assistant Minister for Human Resources and Chief of the HR department Major General Sladjan Djordjevic, who together with his colleagues presented data on the percentages of women in the army, as well as on the mechanisms of protection and rights of women in the defense of our country.

During the talks General Djordjevic stated that women make up little over 1/5 of the total number of employees in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces and are mostly engaged in administrative and analytical duties. He expressed the hope that the number of women in decision making positions would increase in the future.

During their visit, the ONG delegation visited the Military Academy. After meeting with the Head of the Academy Major General Mladen Vuruna and commander of the Army 4th Brigade Brigadier General Milosav Simovic, General Kelly addressed women cadets and their commanders and spoke about the experience, various problems they face and training as well as specific career development of women in the U.S. armed forces.


The commander of the Army Ohio National Guard Brigadier General John Harris spoke about the importance of appointing women in leadership positions in the defense.

During their stay in the Serbian capital, the U.S. delegation will visit the Military Medical Academy, Institute for Strategic Research and the Centre for Peace Operations.
