SEDM meeting in Sofia



Deputy Chief of Staff of the Serbian Army Maj. Gen. Milan Bjelica is participating in the meeting the Deputy CHODs of the Southeast Europe Defense Ministerial (SEDM), held today in Sofia.

Topics of the meeting were talks about projects accomplished in the past and that steps to be taken to further promote cooperation in the framework of this initiative.

The initiative for the establishment of the Southeast Europe Defense Ministerial (SEDM) was launched at a meeting of defense ministers in Tirana in March 1996 , and the Republic of Serbia became a member of SEDM in October 2009. The main objective is to improve understanding of the SEDM and the intensification of political-military cooperation in Southeastern Europe, to strengthen security in this region.

In addition to the Republic of Serbia, members of the SEDM are the USA, Greece, Italy, Turkey, Slovenia, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Albania, Ukraine, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, while Georgia and Moldova have observer status.
