SAF engineering battalion builds a well for the Kulina residential home
Members of the 310th engineering battalion, of the third Brigade of the Army completed the construction of a well for technical water in the residential home Kulina in Aleksinac.
Working Group of Prokuplje-based engineering unit, led by Sergeant Peter Ilic, managed despite the complete works in complex conditions in a record period from 23 to 28 May. The terrain was hard to access and engineering machines operated for two days on clearing the road where the well will be built. Rain hampered the work even further because due to heavy rainfall the newly built road could not have been put into use. In such a situation, the skillfulness of officers and soldiers of the Engineer Battalion became obvious as they drove heavy machinery through the riverbed of the Vukanjska River to the sot where the well was constructed.
For the construction of the well, six meter deep and one meter wide, more than 80 cubic meters of clay and earth were excavated, and pipes were installed for drainage.
The staff of the Kulina residential home and the engineering unit were joyous to see that water had already reached the level of 4.5 meters in the well, which makes them hopeful that drought will never compromise the functioning of the institution again. How much water is precious to the House, the fact that the daily consumption is 50 cubic meters and that the institution provides care to 400 persons with severe and grave mental retardation.
"On behalf of our wards - said the director of the Kulina Home Goran Petkovic - I thank the members of the Army of Serbia and the Ministry of Defense for the assistance they have provided."
The representatives of state and military leadership after visiting Kulina home in March this year, promised to clean up the wild landfill and that they would build a well for technical water to avoid water shortages in summer.
This project has been completed now, although the army has helped Kulina Home before. Military leaders and soldiers of the 246th RCBD battalion were engaged in a specific task during which in 3 months they carried 66 tons of potable water and filled the tanks of the Home, since this institution, due to prolonged drought, had problems providing water for 126 juvenile and 305 adult users, 171 of whom are in-house residents.
