International Nurses Day marked



In the Amphitheater at the Military Medical Academy, the International Nurses' Day - 12 May was marked. The ceremony was attended by Defence Minister Dragan Sutanovac, State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Zoran Vesic and Deputy Minister of Health Dubravka Saranovic.

Congratulating the International Nurses Day, Sutanovac said that a high school for nurses is going to be established very soon, and that an initiative has been launched for the nurses’ salary to be increased in the range of six to ten percent.

- Thanks to the pension fund reform which we have done, we have created a fund that is much more efficient. Unfortunately, the insurance fund SoVo that functioned under the Ministry of Defence owes us 75 million EUR to our health fund. But regardless of the debt our fund is extremely vital and thanks to him to announce further equip not only MMA but also the military hospital in Nis and Novi Sad, said Sutanovac adding that his plan to increase the number of nurses necessary in the treatment process.

The Minister stressed the importance of promoting the military profession system emphasizing the part that deals with human protection is one of the major brands in the country and abroad.

- I thank all who had the courage and boldness to take part in peacekeeping missions since the lift capacity of the army and state. This is an indication that Serbia is a country in which they live and work people who are aware of how important it is to participate in what is called the maintenance of peace and security worldwide, said Sutanovac adding that the current negotiations with several countries in order to participate in Serbian Military Medical Academy building in these countries.

In his speech, Head of the MMA, Brigadier General MMA prof. Dr. Marijan Novakovic said that the ratio of nurses to patients guarantees qualified health services in the health care institution and to the ongoing task of the MMA improving the status and position of nurses.

- The future of nursing depends on the continuous investment in education and training of nurses. So one of MMA's investment priorities in continuing medical education of nurses and technicians. This is achieved by continuous organization of accredited courses, seminars and conferences at the MMA and sending our nurses in various aspects of development both at home and abroad, said the head of the MMA.

Attendees were addressed by Assistant Minister of Health Dubravka Saranovic holiday congratulating nurses throughout Serbia on behalf of the Minister of Health Professor. Dr. Zoran Stankovic.

At the ceremony prizes were awarded: for the best nurse Snezana Stupar-Petko, the Department of Emergency and Clinical Toxicology, then the best nurse in the group of surgical clinics Snezana Petrovic from the Department of Neurosurgery, and Gordana Gajic from the Department of Hematology as the best nurse from the internal clinic.

International Nurses' Day - 12 May, is celebrated in memory of Florence Nightingale, the heroine of the Crimean War who actively participated in caring for the wounded and sick on her return to England, opened the first nurses service, and dedicated her life to the struggle for promotion of the profession of nursing. That is why the celebration of Nursing Day at the Academy was dedicated in large part to the character and work of Florence Nightingale.
