Military cooperation with Austria



State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Dr Tanja Miscevic talked today with the Chief Directorate for Security Policy, of the Federal Ministry of Defence and Sports of the Republic of Austria Major General Johan Pucher as part of security of political consultations between the two countries.

During the talks it was noted that cooperation in defense was intense, while both sides stressed the need for its further improvement of quality, with a focus in the areas of CBRN, training and development, preparation, and joint participation in multinational operations, logistics and military medicine. It was agreed that there should be further exchange of experience in the field of civil-military cooperation and professionalization of the armed forces.

Federal Ministry of Defence and Sports of the Republic of Austria will continue to assist Serbia in defense reform, as well as bringing it closer to European integration and inclusion in regional and wider initiative, while continuing to support the work of the regional center in CBRN Krusevac.

By the end of the year one member of the Serbian Army is expected to be sent to the position of a military observer in a multinational operation, UNTSO in the Middle East, which Republic of Austria ceded to Republic of Serbia.

The stated mission is extremely important for Serbia, and another task is supporting the mission of UNIFIL in South Lebanon, where the largest number of MoD and the Army of Serbia will be engaged
in comparison to other UN missions.

General Pucher also had separate talks with the Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Ljubisa Dikovic and Secretary of State Dr. Zoran Jevtic.
