Sergey Bupka visits the Military Academy



Head of the Military Academy, Major General Mladen Vuruna received today one of the most famous representatives of world athletics, Sergey Bupka, and presented his project of building the first indoor athletics hall in Serbia, which will be built right on the site of the Military Academy. He Athletic Hall will be named after the founder of the Serbian Olympic Committee, "General Djukic Svetomir".

- I wish you much success with this project and I hope that next time I come I will cut the ribbon at the entrance to the hall - Sergei Bupka said, adding that he was aware how much importance such a hall could have for the development of athletics in Serbia and the region.

Bupka is currently President of the Olympic Committee of Ukraine and vice president of the World Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). Given his success (six consecutive World Championships in Athletics, gold at Olympics in 1988 and 35 times setting a world record in pole vault), and since he still gives a great contribution to developing world athletics and sports in general, he was named Athlete 20th century.

The reception was attended by famous athletes and Lt. Gen. Aleksandar Zivkovic, Director of the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Defense, the President of the Athletic Federation of Serbia Veselin Jevrosimovic, Secretary General of the Athletic Association Slobodan Brankovic, and project coordinator for the construction of athletic hall Branko Boskovic and others
