ICOM Award for the exhibition in the Gallery of the Military Club
At the annual meeting of the National Committee of ICOM Serbia held in the Fresco Gallery in Belgrade, on 19 April, prizes in several categories for exceptional results in the work of museum institutions achieved in 2011 were awarded.
The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection from Novi Sad won the Best Project in 2011 Award for the exhibition "Pavle Beljanski Collection: back in Belgrade" which was realised in collaboration with the Media Centre "Odbrana", as a part of the 50th anniversary of the institution.
The authors of the project are Jasna Jovanov and Milica Orlovic Cobanov. In the exhibition held from 12 October to 26 November 2011, at the Gallery of the Central Military Club in Belgrade, 68 artworks by 32 authors were exhibited, among which the most important are the representatives of the Serbian modern art. Careful selection of paintings and sculptures emphasized the national importance collection fund, the personality of the donor Pavle Beljanski, and the tendencies of the Yugoslav and Serbian modern art.
An integral part of the exhibition was the tactile segment, devoted to the blind and visually impaired, and the accompanying program has provided an interactive participation of audience through creative workshops for children, film projections, topical lectures, presentation of publishing activity, promotion of the journal, interpretations by curators and volunteers-students of art history and tourism studies and so on.
This exhibition, with implementation of modern principles and techniques of exhibition, provided the innovative museological solution, thus giving a new contribution to understanding the role of a museum in a society, as well as the significance of cultural heritage, its protection and preservation. The award for the project of the year was received by the manager Jasna Jovanov on behalf of the Memorial collection of Pavle Beljanski.
